Tens of Thousands say Chavez is the Devil

Tens of Thousands say Chavez is the Devil

All is not well in Venezuela.  You would have thought that after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez performance in the U.N. weeks ago that he was the most popular man in the third world!

But apparently the saying is true that a prophet is not honored in his own home town.  And in Chavez’s home there are protests in the streets that make the Mexican take over of American streets months ago look like a Dixie Chick concert.

A march, which filled the main avenues of the city centre, was the biggest opposition rally Venezuela has seen since early 2004.  Tens of Thousands of protesters made an unsuccessful bid to oust Mr. Chavez from power in a recall referendum.

Many of the opponents of President Chavez accuse him of giving away Venezuela's oil wealth to foreign powers.  They are backing opposition candidate Manuel Rosales who will face President Hugo Chavez in December's presidential poll.

Mr. Rosales a middle-class Social Democrat who governs the state of Zulia, on the Colombian border will have trouble because Chavez receives loyalty from poor and working-class voters.

Chavez normally known as a charming politician is believed to face no real threat from Rosales.
